Engraving puts a few words of your own onto a piece of metal. It suits styles that have a flat or gently curved surface left open — an area not taken up by stones, cut-outs or texture. Not every design has that, so the pieces that can be engraved are gathered in one place: engravable styles.

What reads well on a small surface
The space is small, so shorter text can be set larger and stays easier to read. Things that tend to work:
- Initials, one name, or two names together.
- A date, written the way you would say it out loud.
- A short phrase rather than a full sentence.
- A single word that carries the meaning — the one you would keep if you had to cut the rest.
Punctuation and spaces take up room like any other character, and long lines shrink to fit. If you are choosing between two wordings, the shorter one usually looks better on the finished piece.
